The coast of San Diego County was hotter today than it has been at anytime since September 1963, when John F. Kennedy was president. A chain reaction of events in the atmosphere sent temperatures soaring above 100 degrees from Oceanside to San Diego.
“It was like the Anza Borrego desert moved to the coast,” said Rob Balfour, a forecaster at the National Weather Service.
