Several people are in federal custody after U.S. authorities found a sophisticated tunnel used to smuggle drugs between Mexico and San Diego.
The federal San Diego Tunnel Task Force discovered the half-mile passage on Thursday running from a residence in Tijuana to a warehouse in San Diego’s Otay Mesa area.
Authorities said they arrested several suspects and seized an undetermined amount of marijuana in a tractor-trailer. They said they believe more marijuana is being stored inside the tunnel and are working with the Mexican military on the ongoing investigation.
