The San Diego City Council is considering the repeal of an ordinance that strictly regulates construction of Walmart Supercenters.
The world’s largest retailer appears to have gathered significant momentum to repeal the ordinance ahead of Tuesday’s council vote. It collected enough signatures to put the question to voters after the City Council adopted the ordinance in December.
San Diego’s rules require Walmart to study how Supercenters would affect the economy and traffic. Opponents of the measure say it amounts to a ban.
